As with any job where you are on duty 24/7 and it is sometimes difficult to find a bathroom break, the privilege of full-time parenthood is an occupation within which one can lose oneself. Literally.
My co-artist Debbie Prince and I each have been engaged in full-time parenting for at least 7 years -- long enough to notice a remarkably common thread in ourselves and other parents with young children in our suburban wonderland -- when care of others causes us to forget care for ourselves, there is an increasing void within us that can cause feelings of frustration and emptiness. As we grasp at glimpses of ourselves in spare moments, we decided to explore what our co-suburbanites were experiencing and how they preserved their creative souls. The results are phenomenal, and we decided to extend our investigation to the web and to all of you. Please let us know how you create your own moments of happy satisfaction -- be it through even the smallest creative/ intellectual/ physical/ spiritual exercises -- we'd love to hear how you rekindle your bliss. Because, at the very least,how will our childrenknow who we really are if we don't take the time to remember ourselves?
